The New PR

The Internet has drastically changed the way Marking and Public Relations works. Now people can post their thoughts on a product or service on any number of websites and anyone can have access to these blogs. If a company keeps their eyes open they can get all sort of valuable research information entirely for free. Developers can even respond to the postings asking for more information in order to better address the concerns or to give a customer thanks for using their product. It's a little surprising that many companies still have not learned how to truly utilize this resource.

  1. This has been an issue with companies for the past few years, I used to try and give companies the benefit of the doubt and say "All this technology is still too new for them to understand and use to their advantage." Now I have to say, I feel some companies are complete idiots for still paying for advertisments which do not sway the publics in their favor. Instead they could be spending money on research to better utilize and understand how the publics voice through todays technologies could help them.

  2. But then there are the companies who brilliantly use the internet to their own advantage through viral content. One that immediately comes to mind is the Viral Video Marketing Company, a group that is specifically commissioned to make content for public media sites like YouTube that seem amateur or from an unprofessional source.

TechCrunch had an article about it that dates back to 2007, but it continues to be relevant today. http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/11/22/the-secret-strategies-behind-many-viral-videos/

  4. I agree with you Vincent. And the crazy thing is, this whole social media thing has really just gotten started. If we have come this far in literally just a few years, imagine where we could be in a couple more. The new developments in this field are very exciting and I can't wain or imagine what they're going to come out with next.
