Wiki is easier then e-mail

Have you ever tried planning out a trip or activity with several people by using emails? It can be tough. People will get there messages mixed up, someone might not reply to everyone so information is lost, or it could simply take to long to sort out all the reply messages. This is why it is often a better idea to use a wiki to plan out events rather then a slew of e-mails. By setting up a wiki any member of the group can go into the wiki site and edit it. For example, lets say a group is trying to set up a time and location to meet at. Well the creator can list some time and locations. Then people can go into the wiki and mark or "vote" on which location/time they prefer and everyone can see this. Or they can even add in more locations and times.

  1. i agree that a wiki would be a good idea. i just think that it might serve a better purpose for someone you work or go to school with, someone a little less personal. i say this bc we all have cell phones and verbal communication or SMS can be the fastest way to get feedback. A wiki does not offer that, unless you know the people you are trying to get a hold of are always on the computer or people who may know how to use RSS. However, a lot of people do not know how to use RSS let alone a wiki. When everyone is properly educated on both of these i think they will realize how helpful these tools are. However, for the time being I do not see them as being so practical.

  2. I love the idea of Wikis. I personally have never used one, but after taking Group Communication last semester, I see how it could've helped out in organizing group projects. During the class, most of what we did was via email, but sometimes people wouldn't be able to make meetings or would forget the location. It was also hard to set up times when we all were available. A wiki would have allowed us to post our schedules, post the meetings places, times, and agenda for the meetings. Whenever we did get together things were so uncoordinated and scattered; a wiki would have helped us out a lot!

  3. I am currently using a wiki with my group in my "PR for non-profit organizations" class and it really helps a lot. It's nice being able to submit, organize and even add to work that a group of people are producing without having to actually meet up in person in order to do it. It saves a lot of time, and gas for that matter. It doesn't completely replace face-to-face meetings, but it defiantly lowers the need for them.
